Our country is famous not only for beautiful girls, but also for sewing exquisite and luxurious dresses. And if we talk about the person who creates unique clothes known not only in Ukraine, but also in the whole world, it is designer Iryna Marchuk, author of dress with diamonds, which has been registered in the Ukrainian Book of Records, costing 500 thousand Euro and also participating in the main fashion weeks.
We decided to ask Irina about all the details of creation of the most expensive dress, and the most important – what it feels like to put it on, and also what other projects the designer is going to surprise us with this year.
Irina, you are incredibly talented designer whose name is known on different continents, why do you think your style and vision of dresses is so popular with girls all over the world?
Many people say that I am able to see what makes a woman truly beautiful despite the fashion trends. In my opinion, a girl should definitely wear an exceptionally elegant dress to a gala event, not a stretchy skinny over-size dress that you often see on red carpets. Real femininity and what always attracts the attention of men is a luxurious dress, accentuating the waist, elegant shoes and a touch of sexuality. I think this is the main key to success.
You recently set a record for the most expensive dress in the country, tell us about it.
This is a huge achievement of my fashion house, we created it for three months with round-the-clock security of precious stones, with which the outfits are hand-stitched. Its value is 500,000 euros. And all this because the dress is studded not just with strasses but with real diamonds. Only they make up 109.35 carats, and the dress is also trimmed with gold and Swarovski stones. Each jewel is provided with a jewelry certificate of authenticity. I made the dress itself of black collection velvet with a train and puffed sleeves, and the ornamentation with gold Swarovski stones on the skirt is in the style of the Victorian era. This is truly a royal outfit!
Irina, when setting the record you yourself acted as a model and presented the dress of the world. Can you tell us how you felt when you were wearing the most expensive dress?
It is impossible to describe in words what I felt. Of course, it is a great joy, delight that your long-time dream had come true, a sincere excitement, because dozens of TV cameras and 300 viewers of the show were focused on me. I felt a slight worry, because the dress weighed more than 40 kg, and I had to show it casually and easily, without showing the audience that it was hard for me. I am very happy that I could make my idea come true, because now the whole world is talking about my dress.
How did you get the idea for such a unique dress?
I dreamt of having a special dress in my collection a long time ago, during my show at Los Angeles Fashion Week, where I presented a collection of elegant dresses with crystal beads, and boots and shoes embroidered with stones. Then one of the guests of my show was Keith Holman, a representative of the old school Hollywood, known as Michael Jackson’s stylist and owner of museum exhibitions of Marilyn Monroe’s and many other celebrities’ outfits. While at a business dinner together, Keith and I, as creative people, had the idea on the eve of Marilyn Monroe’s birthday to reproduce her legendary white pleated dress, but studded with diamonds.
I decided not to wait for the anniversary and presented the most expensive dress of my own design in Ukraine, which caused great support in the media.
However, I am still very impressed with the idea of reproducing Marilyn Monroe’s dress trimmed with diamonds in Hollywood. And who knows, maybe soon we will realize it – time will tell.
